Worried about winter energy bills?
Take the first steps to lower costs with a free thermal imaging survey
What is a thermal imaging camera?
A thermal imaging camera produces a heat map of hot and cold spots and can be used to find where cold is leaking into, and heat is leaking out of, our homes.
Why should I be interested?
Discovering these areas can highlight where to upgrade or repair, leading to warmer homes, saving on heating bills and reducing our carbon footprint.
Where
Anyone who lives in the parish of Swanmore can arrange a free survey.
When
The camera works best when there is a 10C difference between outside and inside temperatures, so evenings in late autumn, winter and early spring are best.
Why
This is SWaCS first project, we are trained volunteers not experts but we all wanted to ‘do something’ and enjoy the journey.
This follows the lead of Hampshire County Council and Winchester City Council, who both declared a climate emergency in 2019 and are working towards a ‘net zero’* county by 2030.
The average UK carbon footprint per person is about 8.5 tonnes of CO₂ a year and the loss of heat from homes is a major contributor. Global reduction of this footprint to about 2 tonnes per person per year by 2050 should keep a rise in world temperatures below 2C.
How
Swanmore Parish Council has bought a small thermal imaging camera that pairs with a smart phone and SWaCs are launching a free loan project from October for anyone interested, whether homeowners or tenants. A survey takes about an hour.
Get in touch to arrange a suitable time for you to borrow the camera – instructions and help will be provided.
SWaCS is an independent group and has no commercial interests in the survey or work arising from it.

Identify home heat loss to help save on bills
SWaCS is offering on loan a thermal imaging camera to Swanmore residents to help them identify where their homes are losing heat. By pinpointing troublespots a few simple steps may be all that’s needed to reduce fuel bills and cut down on greenhouse gases.
