About SWaCS

The group formed after a climate café held in Swanmore by Winchester Action on the Climate Crisis at the end of 2022 and followed the declaration of a climate emergency by both Hampshire County Council and Winchester City Council in 2019.

With members from two villages, Sustainable Waltham Chase and Swanmore was born to provide a way to learn about and find ways of reducing the carbon footprint of our communities

We work with local councils, national, regional and village organisations and businesses and are part of the Winchester Climate Action Network (WeCAN) which brings together similar groups in the district to share learning, experiences, resources and inspiration!

The big greenhouse gas-producing activities – higher than average in both our villages – are home energy and transport.

We acknowledge that action for change needs to come from different levels, systemic change from national government and local government, as well as the businesses we run, work for or whose services we use.

But there is plenty that individuals can do too – especially when we get together.
