Home solar panels

A number of our members have had solar panels installed on their homes recently.

The price of solar installation has fallen dramatically over the last 20 years. Costs vary, but an average house with a south facing roof might expect to pay around £8,000 to install 14 solar panels. This includes the panels, invertor, scaffolding and installation.

The panels and invertors should last around 25 years (older invertors needed replacing after 10 years).

Recent installations on two houses owned by SWaCS members currently indicate that the panels should pay for themselves in around 5-6 years.

The Energy Saving Trust offer a free solar panel calculator that is a good starting point to work out if solar panels are right for you.
