Bike Dr at the Meon Valley Repair Café

From buckled wheels to busted brake cables the bike doctor worked full tilt to adjust, mend, tighten and tweak all manner of cycles in need of a bit of TLC.

Fifteen bikes were checked and / or repaired for free by RideRide Cycle Workshop from Southampton on the first Saturday in April at the Meon Valley Repair Cafe’s monthly opening.

The free event was organised by SWaCS as part of a focus on transport. Our local villages have above the national average carbon footprints, and the second biggest producer of domestic greenhouse gases per person is transport.

So it was a chance to dust off some two-wheeled transport, bring it into the light of day and ensure it was roadworthy.

A couple of people dropped by to find out about the best way to recycle bikes and a couple more made suggestions to be added to SWaCS’ local recycling information.

For those who had a while to wait the home made cakes, bacon butties and drinks from MVR Café went down a treat.

Our thanks to MVRC for hosting us, to Swanmore Parish Council for their support and to Tim from RideRide for working hard to ensure safe cycles out and about. We hope to organise similar events in the future.
